Our grass-finished beef is raised on pasture with no chemical dewormers, growth hormones or insecticides. We do not routinely use antibiotics but prefer to treat our animals with herbal medicine and homeopathy. The cattle are fed free-choice mineral mix and unrefined natural mineral salt. We believe that the fewer synthetic inputs we have, the healthier the animals will be and ultimately, ourselves.
Our grain-finished Jersey beef is raised on pasture and hay, supplemented with a small amount of our non-GMO, homegrown grain mixture. This results in an incredibly tender, flavorful meat that’s a customer favorite. As always, we don’t use growth hormones, insecticides, or chemical dewormers on any of our meat animals, and we use natural medicine instead of antibiotics whenever possible.
We utilize rotational grazing of our pastures and cover crop mixes. This enables the grass to rest and regrow before the cattle come back and graze it again. We have seen a huge increase in our plant diversity, and the native wildflowers and grasses are coming back to our pastures!
Our beef animals are raised on pasture where they live an active life foraging in a natural environment. The healthy muscle development of our grass-finished beef imparts a wonderful taste and texture. It does need slightly different cooking methods to prevent the muscle fibers from contracting too quickly, but the end result is well worth it! We recommend searing steaks and roasts in a very hot skillet, then finish cooking at a low temperature. Grass-finished beef takes approximately 30% less cooking time.
We sell our meat either by the cut or in bulk. Whole, half, or quarter beef is available approximately twice a year. See below for more details.
Our meats are available directly from us or at the Highland Park Farmer’s Market in Hastings, Nebraska. We make weekly drop deliveries and home deliveries to the Hastings area.
How does bulk beef work?
We’ll deliver the beef to the processor, then, within a few days, you will need to call and give them your custom cutting order. They are very helpful and can answer any questions you might have. Once the beef has been aged and processed, you will pick up the meat at the processor’s facility.
The processing charges are all between you and the processor. We try to approximate an average cost per pound, but if you want special processing, such as sausages, jerky, etc. the charges may be more than our estimate. At the time of the cutting order, the processor can provide detailed information about specialty processing and the cost. Contact us for availability or more info.
