We’ve started an aquaponics system!

The system (in a nutshell) works like this: First, the water from the fish tank is pumped into grow beds which are filled with gravel. The auto-siphons drain the grow beds, and the now filtered water flows back into the fish tank. The fish waste is rich in nutrients that the plants use, and the plants filter the water.

This is an indoor system, so we will have fresh produce year round. We are growing bluegill and a few catfish. Currently we have cucumbers, green beans, basil, onions and broccoli growing, and we are adding new plants all the time!
